Canada Day is celebrated on July 1st across the country. July 1st marks the anniversary of the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in a federation under the name of Canada – that’s the technical explanation, but Canada Day also means fireworks and the year’s biggest national party. This year we celebrate 144 years of Canadian goodness.
Happy Birthday Canada!
Today is my Oma’s 80th birthday! What an amazing achievement. My Oma lived through the war in Germany only to immigrate to Canada with my Opa in 1951. They came over here with a $50 sponsorship from the Canadian Government with a pledge that Canada was the Land of the Free and Endless Opportunities. They ran with it and have had a successful and happy life and became Canadian Citizens. I am truly blessed to be 36 and still have my grandparents who are 2 of the most important role models in my life still around.
Tonight, the family is gathering to take her out to dinner at her favourite Italian restaurant. She said she does not want a present or flowers or something sewn. She just wants to celebrate with her loved ones. I am excited about dinner. I love spending time with my grandparents. I love watching them. I love seeing the love for their family in their eyes. I love being around them. No matter what may be going on in their lives, they always look on the bright side and see the good in just about everything.
Happy Birthday Oma! Here’s to wishing you many more years of happiness and health. I love you.
