It’s Friday, Friday, Friday…

It’s been a while since I have blogged or participated in the Friday Night Sew-In, but that is exactly what I am going to do tonight.  I have been on a sewing slump.  Too much fabric and not enough ideas or motivation and a large mending and scrap cutting pile begging for my attention.  Last night I tackled them and got all my scraps cut and mending mended.  Tonight, I have many things I could do.  I could finish the picnic blanket quilt top I started over a year ago or finish a half made sling bag.  I have some fabric to “try” and make doggie boots for the winter and a greatful tester to try them out since I don’t have a dog.  I am also looking at making some small Christmas gifts, and I have a lovely pattern named “This and That” that I won from Wedding Dress Blue back in July.  I also have a friend on Facebook that has designed a simple yet beautiful quilt who is providing me with measurements.

So, it’s time to shut the computer off and head home from work to have some quality time with the sewing machine.

The Big Quilt Project – Results

Well, I did it!  I completed the Big Quilt Project with a couple days to spare.  These were for my 3 neices and 2 nephews for their Christmas gifts this year instead of the typical gift card or envelope of money that normally gets spent on the most useless and mundane items that a child between 13-21 can get their hands on.  The kids loved their quilts and have something that will last quite a long time!

Here they are!

Friday Night Sew-In Results – Quilt #4

Tonight, of all the projects I have on the go, I began a new quilt!  This is quilt # 4 of my Big Quilt Project where I need to have 5-7 quilts completed by Christmas.  Quilts 1 & 2 are completed and # 3 needs to be sandwiched, but I did not feel like doing that tonight.

I began by cutting a lot of 6.25 inch squares then I cut them into quarters.

After this was done, I sewed them together to get half squares.  Then ironed them.  Then sewed each half together to get 42 5.25 inch (I think) squares.  I remembered tonight how much I hate ironing things but am glad I am starting to make progress on this one finally.  The fabric has been taunting me for 3 weeks.

The Big Quilt Project – Quilt # 2 – Unnamed

This guy is almost done and doesnt have a name yet. I was really unsure about the blue border but I am in love with it now. It ties in so well.

What name would you give this quilt?  I am stumped.

WIP Wednesday

I have been quite overwhelmed and overworked and overstressed – to the point of wanting to quit my job but with a mortgage and I really want to keep my house, I got some workplace organization advice and chatted with the boss and we are working through it. That is the reason I have not posted much in the past week or done a lot of sewing either. I had to take it easy on all areas if my life and try to regain a bit of my sanity back. I work hard. I play hard. I have a hard time finding the balance.

Here is my weekly WIP list.

* Covered kitty bed – I had designed this with my mom over the weekend but now I am second guessing it and have sketched something else out. Need to scan it and send to mom for approval since it’s for her fur babies!
* Quilt 1 – Fabric Selected – Will call this Splash – I have sewn almost 4/5 of the quilt top – just have to do the border.
* Quilt 2 – Fabric Selected – Not sure what to call it. Very bright. I have this quilt top approximately 1/2+ done.
* Quilt 3 – Chocolate and pink jelly roll
* Quilt 4 – no clue yet
* Quilt 5 – no clue on this one either
* Quilt 6 – if time permits before Christmas
* Quilt 7 – if time permits before Christmas
* Beach Bag
* Wallet
* Sleep masks

And with all that, I am off to my Hot Yoga class to decompress and detox from the past week. And a quick thanks to Donna!

WIP Wednesday

Here is my weekly WIP list.  I don’t feel overwhelmed about it.  Perhaps it has not hit me yet.  I plan to have 2 quilts completed and fabric for #3 cut out by the end of August.  Maybe even more.  I am being very optimistic about this.

* Covered kitty bed with removable washable pillow for Mom’s Maine Coon Kitties – I hope to do this over the weekend.
* Quilt 1 – Fabric Selected – Will call this Splash – I have sewn almost 1/4 of the quilt top
* Quilt 2 – Fabric Selected – It think it will be called Spots and Dots..still thinking about that name
* Quilt 3 – I have some fluorescent green, pink and orange.  hmmm..
* Quilt 4 –
* Quilt 5 –
* Quilt 6 – if time permits before Christmas
* Quilt 7 – if time permits before Christmas
* Beach Bag
* Wallet
* Sleep masks ’cause our bedroom faces south and having 2 cats, closed blinds and an open window at night doesn’t mix. They make sooo much noise climbing behind them so we are sleeping with them partially open.

The Big Quilt Project

Tonight, I have started what I am going to refer to as the “Big Quilt Project” (BQP).  This is where I had a momentary lapse of sanity and agreed to make 5-7 quilts before Christmas.  All this and other projects as well.  Good thing I like to sew or I would be royally pooched…

Here are the fabrics for the first two of the BQP.

WIP Wednesday

My new updated Wednesday WIP/Project List.  As you can see, it has grown to an insane level.  Teach me for agreeing to get 5-7 quilts done before Christmas.  Does anyone have some easy and quick patterns they could recommend?  I plan on making at least 2 of the quilts out of some Moda Jelly Rolls that I currently have.

* Finish binding on the Sugar and Spice Quilt
* Covered kitty bed with removable washable pillow for Mom’s Maine Coon Kitties
* Quilt 1
* Quilt 2
* Quilt 3
* Quilt 4
* Quilt 5
* Quilt 6 – if time permits before Christmas
* Quilt 7 – if time permits before Christmas
* Beach Bag
* Wallet
* Sleep masks ’cause our bedroom faces south and having 2 cats, closed blinds and an open window at night doesn’t mix. They make sooo much noise climbing behind them so we are sleeping with them partially open.

This will be me by Christmas…
