Friday Night Sew-In

What?  How did I start my Friday Night Sew-In without registering?  How did I miss that?

So, here is what I plan on doing/have partially done.

Press the backing and quilt top.  Sandwich and pin together.  I would love to sew, but that might not happen tonight.

Friday Night Sew-In

I am participating in the Friday Night Sew-In today and it couldn’t have come at a better time.  I have two quilts that need the 2 backing pieces sewn together and then they need to be sandwiched and pinned and FMQ’d.  I also have the fifth and final quilt to the Big Quilt Project that needs to be started.  The fabric is on the cutting board and the pattern is simple.  Alternating 3 inch blocks.  Simple.  Very nice results and quilt easy to get results as I am sewing 5 x 3.5 strips of fabric together, then cutting into the blocks.  I will probably  even get assistance from my little helper!

Cut, sew, press repeat

Cut, sew and press. Then repeat. This is what I have been doing for the past week and a half. I have made 8 of these 100 patch squares so far and I believe I need 4 more to complete this quilt top!

Big Quilt Project – I need your help!

I am working on the 4th quilt of my Big Quilt Project where 5-7 quilts need to be completed by Christmas and I really need your assistance.  I bought these 3 fabrics and they looked great in the fabric store but now I am not sure.  I decided on a design and now I am triple guessing myself.

Here is the original design.  I don’t like it so much.

Here is an alternate option.  Not so bad.

And another one.  I think this might be my favourite.

And a final one.  I like this one too.  Perhaps this could be the 5th quilt I need to make.

Both of these quilts are for men.  What do you think?

Friday Night Sew-In Results – Quilt #4

Tonight, of all the projects I have on the go, I began a new quilt!  This is quilt # 4 of my Big Quilt Project where I need to have 5-7 quilts completed by Christmas.  Quilts 1 & 2 are completed and # 3 needs to be sandwiched, but I did not feel like doing that tonight.

I began by cutting a lot of 6.25 inch squares then I cut them into quarters.

After this was done, I sewed them together to get half squares.  Then ironed them.  Then sewed each half together to get 42 5.25 inch (I think) squares.  I remembered tonight how much I hate ironing things but am glad I am starting to make progress on this one finally.  The fabric has been taunting me for 3 weeks.

Friday Night Sew-In

I am participating in the Friday Night Sew-In as soon as I get home from work.

Tonight, I will either sandwich and begin quilting the Splash, begin working on a new quilt that is part of the Big Quilt Project or perhaps work on a secret project but then I can’t tell you about it until the recipient receives it.  I am glad hockey season is upon us now.  It keeps the Mr. occupied and gives me more sewing time!

Happy sewing tonight!

Big Quilt Project – Quilt #1 – Splash

I have finally sewn the border on the “Splash” and am now ready to sandwich and free motion quilt this puppy. I am 3 weeks behind my estimated schedule to get 5-7 quilts done by Christmas.
My next two, I have the fabric for but no design yet. I want something simple due to my time constraints. The fabric is solid blue and solid white with a matching blue gingham. Guess I’m surfing the net after this for something quick and fun!
Sorry I have not been posting much lately. I have been hit with a case of life happens and needed to focus on being healthy and something had to take the back-burner while I tried to regain my sanity although I am still working on that part!

WIP Wednesday

I’m back with my weekly WIP.

Here is my list.  I feel as though I have made some decent progress.  I am still hopeful that I will get the 5 quilts done by Christmas and I have booked a day off work (I have 14 days to take this year still) to dedicate to sewing.  It will be a happy day!

  • Quilt 1 – Splash – Fabric has been cut for the border and will be sewn on in the next couple days.  Still need to cut the back  but since it is a solid and the same colour as the border, this will be fast.
  • Quilt 2 – The Un-named Enigma.  I cannot figure out a name for this one.  The border is sewn on and i need to do the backing, then pin and FMQ.  Can anyone help with a name?
  • Quilt 3 – Sophisti-Pink  – This one is almost all done.  It just needs the binding and then a wash and dry!
  • Quilt 4 – Bought the fabric at 50% off!  Score!!  I bought soo much that I can actually make 2 with this colour.  It’s a blue and white gingham with a matching solid blue.  YAY!
  • Quilt 5 – same fabric – different pattern as #4 perhaps
  • Kitty Quilts
  • Covered Kitty Bed
  • Quilt 6 – if time permits before Christmas
  • Quilt 7 – if time permits before Christmas
  • Beach Bag
  • Wallet
  • Sleep masks

The Big Quilt Project – Quilt # 2 – Unnamed

This guy is almost done and doesnt have a name yet. I was really unsure about the blue border but I am in love with it now. It ties in so well.

What name would you give this quilt?  I am stumped.

The Big Quilt Project – Update

It’s been a while since my last post and I thought you all deserved an update on my progress.  I am behind schedule.  I was hoping to have at least 2 completely done by now and good progress on the third.  I have 14 vacation days to use this year still, so I am thinking of taking one or two days just to get caught up on my projects.

  • Quilt # 1 – Splash – Need to cut and attach the border, then quilt
  • Quilt # 2 – Unnamed – Need to cut and attach the border, then quilt.  It’s the picture on the left when you click the link – Help me name it!
  • Quilt # 3 – Sophisti-Pink – This has been quilted!  Just need to to the border and voila!
  • Quilt # 4 – Unnamed – Bought some really nice solid blue and blue gingham for 50% off and I have the pattern seleted
  • Quilt # 5 – Unnamed – Need to buy fabric still

I have FMQ’d the Sophisti-Pink and being I have only done this on kitty blankets, I found it rather challenging.  I know all my stitches are not perfect but I still think it looks pretty great.  The recipient will like and enjoy it and thats all that matters.  I think I am moving the fabric to fast.  The other issue is the weight and size made it hard for me to move it around easily.  I folded it.  I rolled it. I could just not get it to groove the way I wanted it to.  Does anyone have any tips that work well for them?
