I am making a baby/toddler quilt for a baby who is not born yet. I like to think that this is something the child will be able to use up until they are grown or until the quilt falls apart. It will be approximately 3 feet x 5 feet. A very versatile size. I was asked to make this as a gift from the “cats” and to include cats and girl colours.
The top fabric is the main pattern and will be cut to have 4 or 5 strips. The bottom fabric is the backing.
Then, I thought 2 inch squares between the rows of cats would be pretty cool. This is where the problem began. I have too many options.
Option 1 –
Option 2 –
Option 3 –
Option 4 –
Option 5 –
Of course I will be asking the gifter what one she prefers, but I also want your opinions please.
Advice is greatly appreciated.
Hey everyone! I know I have been quite silent on my blog over the past couple months. I have been busy sewing on the Big Quilt Project.
You know. The one where I threw all sanity and reason out the window and agreed to make 5 quilts by Christmas. The project I started in September?
Well, tonight I have completed them. I have the last one in the wash as I type this and I need to clip the stray threads off them.
Finished in the nick of time. I am looking forward to taking a small break from sewing and catch up on some reading over the Christmas break.
Pictures have been taken but I am too tired to upload them tonight. I will have them posted in a day!
I can’t believe I did it!
Cut, sew and press. Then repeat. This is what I have been doing for the past week and a half. I have made 8 of these 100 patch squares so far and I believe I need 4 more to complete this quilt top!
I have finally sewn the border on the “Splash” and am now ready to sandwich and free motion quilt this puppy. I am 3 weeks behind my estimated schedule to get 5-7 quilts done by Christmas.
My next two, I have the fabric for but no design yet. I want something simple due to my time constraints. The fabric is solid blue and solid white with a matching blue gingham. Guess I’m surfing the net after this for something quick and fun!
Sorry I have not been posting much lately. I have been hit with a case of life happens and needed to focus on being healthy and something had to take the back-burner while I tried to regain my sanity although I am still working on that part!
It’s been a while since my last post and I thought you all deserved an update on my progress. I am behind schedule. I was hoping to have at least 2 completely done by now and good progress on the third. I have 14 vacation days to use this year still, so I am thinking of taking one or two days just to get caught up on my projects.
- Quilt # 1 – Splash – Need to cut and attach the border, then quilt
- Quilt # 2 – Unnamed – Need to cut and attach the border, then quilt. It’s the picture on the left when you click the link – Help me name it!
- Quilt # 3 – Sophisti-Pink – This has been quilted! Just need to to the border and voila!
- Quilt # 4 – Unnamed – Bought some really nice solid blue and blue gingham for 50% off and I have the pattern seleted
- Quilt # 5 – Unnamed – Need to buy fabric still
I have FMQ’d the Sophisti-Pink and being I have only done this on kitty blankets, I found it rather challenging. I know all my stitches are not perfect but I still think it looks pretty great. The recipient will like and enjoy it and thats all that matters. I think I am moving the fabric to fast. The other issue is the weight and size made it hard for me to move it around easily. I folded it. I rolled it. I could just not get it to groove the way I wanted it to. Does anyone have any tips that work well for them?
My Friday Night Sew-In involved no sewing.
However, I did cut the batting to size and pinned all 3 layers together so it is now ready to FMQ. I would have started quilting it but I was feeling under the weather and went to bed early.
I was originally calling this quilt Pink Passion but now am contemplating calling it Sophisti-Pink.
My new updated Wednesday WIP/Project List. I have made some progress! Three quilt tops almost complete in 2.5 weeks. Pretty good so far!

This is the 3rd of my 5 quilts that need to be completed by Christmas. The stripes are half done and then there will be a solid chocolate border on this. I also have the rest of the stripes cut to size. As this is part of my Big Quilt Project, I am using the same design on at least Quilts 1, 2 and 3.
Now, its off to bed. Hope everyone enjoyed their Friday Night Sew In this month!
After getting one quilt top except the border complete and 1/4 of the second quilt top completed, I am taking a break tonight and being a bum. A well deserved break. I am going to bed early as well and not doing the dishes either!
Tomorrow I go fabric shopping after work to get 40% off! Yay!
Have a great night everyone!
I did it! I completed this quilt top in under 8 hours! Whoo Hoo! I said they were going to be simple designs to help with my sanity..err, I mean to be able to complete all 5 prior to Christmas. The finished size is approximately 50″x60″ but I am thinking it should be bigger so it can be used on a double bed. Perhaps a one foot border in green or blue around the entire quilt? Here is the finished (or almost finished?) quilt top. Yay me! If I keep them all this simple, I will be done in no time!!
